The State of The Union
It’s Time to Dream of a New America
Mr. Speaker, Mr. Vice President, Members of Congress, my fellow Americans:
Tonight marks the first time I’ve had the honor and privilege of addressing this body on the State of our Union. Although many who have stood here have promised you they would try and keep this short, I assure you that my message is simple and will not take long.
I stand in front of you at a pivotal moment in our country’s history with the knowledge that the choices we have made over the last few months and years have challenged many of our understandings of the founding principles of this country. Moreover, the decisions that lie ahead of us will shape the future of our nation in ways that few other generations of Americans have been able to do.
At the heart of these decisions is one question, “who do we want to be as a nation?” There are many competing answers to this question and that competition has led to some of our greatest accomplishments. Yet we live in an era where it has also led to increasing divisions which threaten our alliances, our international leadership, and our own domestic tranquility.
So, I come before you today with a simple request. I ask it of those in my party whom are angry or disillusioned over impeachment. I ask it of those in the other party who believe they have…
